What is abnormal bleeding?

Abnormal bleeding refers to menstrual bleeding that falls outside of what’s considered normal. A normal menstrual cycle lasts 28-34 days and includes up to eight days of bleeding. If your cycle is out of the norm, then your bleeding may be considered abnormal.

Signs that indicate abnormal bleeding include:

• Bleeding longer than eight days
• Bleeding between periods
• Heavy menstrual bleeding
• Bleeding after menopause
• Shorter or longer menstrual cycle
